Brief description of the metals used to plate your
goods
The metals used to plate your items
Gold plating
Any item can be plated in 9 carat, 18carat, Rose gold or pure 24 carat gold. The 18 carat and Rose Gold is achieved by using mixers with the base solution. 24 carat gold is the deepest yellow in colour with 9 carat being the palest. Rose gold has a red hue and was popular during the Victorian period so lends itself nicely to older items, particulary jewellery. In real terms the hardest wearing gold is 9 carat. You will find a fuller explanation of the carat markings on the musings page. Nothing to deep.
Silver plating
Silver is a soft metal that has a tendency to tarnish quickly which is, perhaps, the reason so much decorative ware has been over polished back to the base metal. The solution used by Precious Metal Plating is unique in that it has been designed to plate bright and with increased hardness when compared to conventional solutions. Another advantage is that it will fill in minor scratches whilst plating saving on expensive preparation time.
Palladium plating
Palladium is commonly used as a substitute for white gold, platinum and rhodium. Looks particulary classy when used with gold on the same object.
Other metal plating
Precious Metal Plating can also plate your items in bronze, copper and chrome. Chrome plating is useful in the restoration of, for example: old car parts, taps, vintage handles etc.
